I am for some reason always trying to sum up my style with a few words, "geeky, laid-back" or "feminine, minimalist, neutral" or sometimes "Rory Gilmore meets Dita Von Teese". I think it is clear I like a lot of things, but I kind of lack direction.
And there are really no rules when it comes to personal style, so why try to box myself in? Here's what I do know:
- I work in a lab so I am limited to wearing pants, close-toed shoes, and pulling my hair back 5 days a week.
- I have a hard time not buying everything that is cute, clever or nerdy.
- I run a lot and I am constantly needing to shower, wash my hair, and apply makeup so that shit better not take me forever.
- I will buy anything that is black and white, or has polka dots. Or both.
- I'm 26, and work in the "real world" so there is some need to look mature. Wearing glasses makes me do science better, I swear.
And with that out of the way I bring you to the content portion of this post! As I was browsing the internet this morning (around 6 AM on a Sunday) I came across this necklace I adored and then decided I wanted to make a list of the cute things I've seen lately that need to find a way into my closet.
Hex Necklace from Cat & Bot
I came across Cat & Bot through Anna Akana's instagram, and there is so much lovely stuff there! Obviously I was attracted to this necklace as it looks like a cyclohexane molecule. I am pretty sure I will need to buy this soon. What if it came in chair conformation?
Black Milk Galaxy Leggings
I own one pair of Black Milk leggings and that is not enough. I like these ones in particular because they have an actual galaxy on them (from a NASA picture!) and they aren't so outrageous that they are just comical. Like the unicorn/pegasus covered ones I am wearing now. I could see these being worked into an outfit I wear out. Black Milk also has tons of other patterns for nerds; maps from LOTR, Harry Potter prints, R2D2 bodysuits....
Hamlet Sweatshirt from Out of Print Clothing
I love love love the concept behind Out of Print; take classic book covers of great works and put them on a shirt. The cover of a book is VERY important though some would like you to believe otherwise. It is what first grabs your attention, and also what you later associate the book with. Hamlet doesn't speak to me in particular - I read it in high school like many of us - but I do like the colors of this sweatshirt.
Bears Print Tank by Leah Goren
I learned of Leah Reena Goren from her very famous black cat print that has been used (and copied) all over. I actually have that on my phone case and I love it and I've just ordered another one of her cases. She does fantastic print design and this bear print is just so sweet. And it's bears.
And that is my current wishlist, now I am crawling back into bed to rest my very sore legs that ran 6 miles yesterday.
